How is my account’s currency determined?

The currency is initially set based on the location of where your Udemy account was created. By default, learners who do not have one of our supported currencies assigned to their Udemy account will see prices set in either EUR or USD.

All instructors, regardless of location, have the option of setting a new course price in any of Udemy’s supported currencies.

Can I change the currency for my account?

We are unable to change the currency of an account from the one that is for the nation you are currently residing in or located in.

If you currently live in a different country than the one your Udemy account was created in, please contact support for further assistance. You can begin that process by clicking Contact us and following the applicable instructions.

How can I see what currency is assigned to my account?

The currency assigned to your account will be indicated in the course prices you see when you search for courses on the Udemy marketplace. Please be sure that you’re logged into your Udemy account, however, so that the correct currency is indicated.

In addition, if you’ve purchased a course before, you can also see what currency is registered for your account by reviewing receipts in your Purchase History.

Why have I seen two different currencies at Udemy.com?

Please be sure to log into your Udemy account to see the currency assigned to your account. If you are traveling or are using someone else’s computer, then the currency you see might be based on the device’s current location or that person’s account, rather than your own.

In addition, if you’re using the Udemy mobile app, please remember that the app features currencies supported by the Apple App Store and Google Play, and can differ from Udemy.com.

I noticed my country’s currency is available on the mobile app but not on Udemy.com. How come?

As noted above, Udemy’s mobile app features the currencies that are supported by the Apple App Store and Google Play.

How are you calculating exchange rates?

Udemy uses a country-specific price tier matrix to determine a learner's localized price. The matrix will be updated periodically based on market conditions.

What taxes are charged for Udemy courses?

Learners who reside in regions that collect transaction taxes like VAT, GST, or other types of sales taxes may be required to pay a tax when they make a purchase on the Udemy platform (Learn more).

Why is the currency at checkout different from the currency assigned to my account?

Some banks and financial institutions will not authorize international payments in certain currencies, and as a result, the purchases are processed in another currency at the equivalent price.  For example, a learner in Brazil may see prices displayed in BRL but pay in USD, if they choose certain payment methods at checkout.

If you have any additional questions regarding your financial institution's restrictions or policies regarding this, we recommend you contact them directly for more information.

Does Udemy charge any currency conversion fees?

Udemy does not charge any currency conversion fees when you purchase a course.

If you purchase a course in a currency that’s different from your payment method’s currency, however, your financial institution or the third-party payment processor may apply a currency conversion rate or fee.

Please contact your financial institution or payment provider for information on what conversion fees may apply.
