Udemy’s Instructor GenAI Program and Policy
As noted above, the GenAI Program allows Udemy to use the content of participating instructors in connection with generative AI models. This program has the potential to drive increased engagement and revenue for both instructors and Udemy.

Opting out of the Instructor GenAI Program: What does that do?
If an instructor opts out of the GenAI Program, Udemy will remove their submitted content from the GenAI Program by the end of the calendar year in which they opt out.
- Note: Instructors who opt out of the program will also lose access to our instructor-oriented GenAI tools, which are designed to optimize the course creation and management process. Further, instructors who opt out of the program may not have access to any potential new revenue streams associated with the applicable AI features.
- Opting out of the program will not affect Udemy’s ability to apply generative or non-generative AI models to, or develop or improve non-generative AI models on, content instructors have submitted to our platform to support the core capabilities of certain services. Some examples of these core capabilities include:
- Bringing participants to the platform (i.e., marketing campaigns)
- Matching participants with content (i.e., powering search and recommendations)
- Facilitating safe transactions (i.e.,detecting fake course reviews)
- Ensuring compliance and accessibility (i.e., providing learners with course transcripts)

How to manage your participation in the Instructor GenAI Program
By default, all instructors are included in the GenAI Program, unless they opt out during the designated annual periods. The upcoming annual period during which instructors will have the opportunity to update their participation will be from August 21-September 12.
Instructors can access and manage their participation in the program by following the steps below:
- Navigate to your account settings and the GenAI Program page.
- Note: currently, instructors without a published course will need to access the GenAI Program page via Udemy.com on a browser, or through the Udemy Android mobile app. Instructors without a published course cannot access the page via the iOS mobile app.
- Select your participation status in the program (as noted above: all instructors are included in the program by default).
- Next, you will be prompted to confirm your selection.
