To deliver a consistent student experience, Udemy courses must meet minimum standards for approval. The Quality Review Team will help you get your course approved when you submit your course for review. We reserve the right to re-review courses if instructors violate these standards at any point.
In the course description:
- Don’t include images, external links, or links to other Udemy courses in your course description.
- Don’t include coupon codes, coupon links, course referral links, or mentions of discounts (per our rules and guidelines).
Disclosing the use of audiovisual promotions in your course content
If you include an advertisement for any product or service in your course content or Bonus Lecture (such as a promotion for other Udemy courses, content available outside of the Udemy platform, affiliate links or discounted software taught in the course) in an audiovisual format, you must disclose this in your course description.
-
Disclose the use of promotions by including the phrase “this course contains a promotion.”
- Other accepted variations include “this course contains ads” or “this course contains promotional materials”
Recommended: include the disclosure at the end of your course description.
Instructors must comply with, and not attempt to circumvent, Udemy’s Terms of Use and Trust & Safety Policies, including any obligations and restrictions related to audiovisual promotions.
Disclosing the use of artificial intelligence generated content in your course content
If your course content incorporates or is supported by any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, you must disclose this in your course description.
If you use any such content in your course, you must use the following phrase at the beginning of your course description:
- “This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.”
Not all uses of artificial intelligence require disclosure - instructors may use various AI tools to assist with course creation. If you're unsure of whether a tool uses artificial intelligence, we recommend contacting the manufacturer directly or conducting research online to confirm. The following types of tools have a more prominent effect on learner outcomes and require disclosure:
- Content generation tools used to write course scripts or generate lecture content.
- Image/visual creation tools that generate course images, diagrams, or other static visual elements.
- Video/audio creation tools that generate artificial video or speech meant to emulate human instruction.
- Code generation tools that generate substantial code examples or programming exercises.
- Translation/dubbing: AI-powered translation services or voice cloning for multi-language versions.
- Quiz/assessment creation: AI tools that generate quiz questions, assignments, or course assessments.
- Udemy AI tools provided to instructors.
The following types of tools do not typically require disclosure:
- Grammar, spell check, or basic editing assistance tools.
- The use of AI to help find topics or gather background information (but not generate final content).
- AI-enhanced editing software, noise reduction, or technical production assistance.
- AI help with structuring existing content or creating outlines from your original ideas.
