All learners and instructors are responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with Udemy’s Terms of Use and Trust & Safety policies. If you would like to report a potential violation, there are options for flagging in-product and by reaching out to the Trust & Safety Team directly.

Reporting from the course landing page

If you notice an issue with a course image or other parts of the course landing page scroll to the bottom of the page, past any course reviews, and click the “Report abuse” button.

Reporting within a lecture

To report abuse within a lecture, click the gear icon toward the bottom-right of the course player.  For violations that appear briefly in a lecture, please consider including a timestamp of the issue in your report, please consider noting a timestamp in your report.

Reporting other miscellaneous violations

To report policy violations without an option for reporting on the page or in the course player, or to discuss policy in general, you can contact us directly at policy@udemy.com.  If you are reporting a potential violation, please include details such as a direct link and/or screenshot of the content at issue, so that our team can investigate and follow up as necessary.

Reporting inappropriate content that is harmful, violent, hateful, or criminal 

To report harmful, violent, hateful, or criminal content, including any content that:

• may impair the physical, mental, or moral development of minors
• contains incitement to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of a group based on sex, race, color, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age, sexual orientation, or nationality
• the dissemination of which constitutes an activity which is a criminal offense, namely provocation to commit a terrorist offense, child pornography, or offenses concerning racism or xenophobia;

Please select the appropriate Issue Type on the “Report Abuse” screen:

Please include relevant details, such as a direct link and an explanation of the reasons why you believe the content is inappropriate, so that our team can investigate and follow up as necessary.

Each submission is reviewed manually, and you can expect to receive a summary of the decision taken regarding the content at issue sent to the email address used to submit the report. 

If you would like to appeal a decision taken for reports under this Issue Type, please reply to the email stating the decision or email policy@udemy.com with the reason for your appeal and a statement confirming your honest belief that the contents of the notice are accurate and complete.

Leaving a review

Even you have a course experience you believe other prospective students should consider, you may wish to leave a review in addition to reporting to Trust & Safety.  Please ensure reviews are professional and in compliance with the Review Guidelines.

Requesting a refund

If for whatever reason you are unhappy with a course, you can request a refund, provided the request meets the guidelines in our refund policy. Learn how to request a refund.

As a student, you are responsible for all activity on the platform. This includes the content that you post or otherwise create on our platform, such as reviews, questions, posts, messages, and any other content you share. 

In addition to any restrictions in the Terms of Use, and Udemy’s Trust & Safety Policies, you agree that you will not:

• post or provide any content or information that is inappropriate, offensive, racist, hateful, sexist, racially or ethnically objectionable, pornographic, false, misleading, incorrect, infringing, defamatory, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, relating to or encouraging money laundering or gambling, containing incitement to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of a protected group or otherwise unlawful in any manner;
• post or provide any content or information that harms minors or may impair the physical, mental, or moral development of minors in any way; 
• post or provide any content or information, the dissemination of which constitutes an activity which is a criminal offense, namely provocation to commit a terrorist offense, child pornography, or offenses concerning racism or xenophobia; 
• post or provide any content that bullies or humiliates another person, promotes or encourages behavior that characterizes a feeding or eating disorder, or that promotes or encourages self-harm or suicide, including content which encourages behavior preducial to the health or safety of children, including dangerous challenges;
• post or provide any content containing pornography or consisting of realistic representations of, or of the effects of, gross or gratuitous violence or acts of cruelty;
• post or transmit any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, junk mail, spam, or any other form of solicitation (commercial or otherwise) through the Services or to any user;
• engage in any activity that would require us to obtain licenses from or pay royalties to any third party, including the need to pay royalties for the public performance of a musical work or sound recording;
• impersonate another person, gain unauthorized access to another person's account, or otherwise deceive or mislead others about the origin of the content or information;
• frame or embed the Services (such as to embed a free version of a course) or otherwise circumvent the Services; or
• abuse Udemy resources, including support services.

If you’re accessing our Services as a student located in India, then these terms also include, and you agree to comply with, the provisions of Rule 3(2) of the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011.  

Violations of Udemy’s Terms of Use or other policies may result in restrictions against your account, up to and including a ban from the platform.  

UDEMY TRADEMARK POLICY

Reporting Claims of Trademark Infringement:

Udemy takes claims of trademark infringement seriously. Udemy’s policy is to remove content from our platform when it’s reported and found to be infringing a third-party trademark. 

If you have a good-faith belief that an instructor is infringing on a trademark owned by you or an organization you represent, you can send us an official complaint through our web form. (Please note that this form is English only.)

If you prefer, you can also send us a complaint by email or postal mail by following the instructions in our Intellectual Property Policy.

For us to process your trademark claim, the written notice (the "Trademark Takedown Notice") must include the following:

• Your complete contact information (full name, mailing address, and email or phone number);
• The specific word, symbol, etc. for which you claim trademark rights;
• The basis for your claim of trademark rights (such as a national or community registration), including registration number, if applicable;
• The country or jurisdiction in which you claim trademark rights;
• The category of goods and/or services for which you assert rights;
• Precise location(s) in the reported course URL(s) where your registered trademark can be found; 
• A description of how you believe this content infringes your trademark;
• If you are not the rights holder, an explanation of your relationship to the rights holder;
• A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the trademark as described above in the manner complained of is not authorized by the trademark owner, its agent, or the law
• A statement that the information in this notice is accurate, and I declare, under penalty of perjury, that I am the owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner of a trademark that is allegedly infringed.
• A statement that Udemy may forward my complaint, including my contact information, to the affected user.”; and
• Your electronic signature ("/s/" followed by your full name, e.g., "/s/ Jane Doe") or physical signature.

Please be aware that submitting a false or misleading claim of infringement could result in liability for you. Udemy reserves the right to seek damages from any party that submits a false or misleading notification of claimed trademark infringement.

Repeat Infringers:

Udemy reserves the right  to terminate an instructor’s account at any time, including when they post content in violation of the trademark rights of another from its marketplace. 

UDEMY COPYRIGHT POLICY

Reporting Claims of Copyright Infringement:
Udemy takes claims of copyright infringement seriously. We will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law. If you believe any materials accessible on or from www.udemy.com (the "Website") infringe your copyright, you may request removal of those materials (or access to them) from the Website by submitting written notification via this form. (Please note that this form is English only.)

In accordance with the Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) ("DMCA"), the written notice (the "DMCA Notice") must include substantially the following:

• A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.
• Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit Udemy to locate the material (i.e., the URL of the webpage containing the material).
• Information reasonably sufficient to permit Udemy to contact you, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which you may be contacted.
• A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

If you fail to comply with all of the requirements of Section 512(c)(3) of the DMCA, your DMCA Notice may not be effective.

Please be aware that if you knowingly materially misrepresent that material or activity on the Website is infringing your copyright, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys' fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.

If you believe that material you posted on the Website was removed or access to it was disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter-notification with us (a "Counter-Notice") by submitting written notification to takedowns@udemy.com. Pursuant to the DMCA, the Counter-Notice must include substantially the following:

• Your name, address, and telephone number.
• Identification of the material that has been removed or to which access has been disabled and the location (URL) at which the material appeared before it was removed or access to it was disabled.
• A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled.
• A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located, or if your address is outside of the United States, for any judicial district in which Udemy may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent us the takedown notice or an agent of such person.
• Your physical or electronic signature.

The DMCA allows us to restore the removed content if the party filing the original DMCA Notice does not file a court action against you within ten business days of receiving the copy of your Counter-Notice.

Repeat Infringers:
It is Udemy’s policy in appropriate circumstances to disable and/or terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.

Udemy is committed to improving lives through learning by providing flexible and effective skill development to empower both individuals and businesses globally. As part of our commitment to both education and transparency, we are providing the following information as required by the EU Digital Services Act (the “DSA”).

Single point of contact for authorities

Article 11 of the DSA stipulates online platforms must designate a single point of contact to enable direct communication with EU Member State authorities, the European Commission, and the European Board for Digital Services regarding the enforcement and implementation of the DSA.

These authorities can contact Udemy regarding the DSA at dsacompliance@udemy.com. Such communications should be in English. In addition, please be sure to include your full name, contact information, and the name of the EU-based authority on whose behalf you are contacting us. 

Report Illegal Content per Article 16 of the DSA

To report content you see on the Udemy platform that you believe to be illegal click here. You can also flag suspected illegal content on the Udemy platform through the Report Abuse feature. 

If you are a trusted flagger, you may either use the above form to report content or contact us at dsacompliance@udemy.com. In accordance with the DSA, trusted flagger reports will be prioritized for review. 

Out of Court Dispute Resolution Option for EU Users

Under the DSA, EU Member States must certify independent out-of-court settlement bodies to handle eligible disputes. The European Commission will maintain a website listing these certified bodies. As of June 30, 2024, no bodies have been certified yet Udemy is not obligated to abide by their decisions. 

Eligible disputes include cases where content visibility or account access has been restricted due to illegal content or policy violations, or where content reported by users as unlawful or in violation of policies remains unremoved by Udemy.

Information on average monthly active recipients in the European Union

Article 24 (2) of the DSA requires online platforms publish information about their average monthly active users in the EU at least once every six months.

For the six-month period ending on June 30, 2024, calculated as an average, Udemy had approximately 4.1 million monthly active recipients (as defined by the DSA) of its service in the European Union. In order to calculate the number of monthly active recipients, Udemy counts the number of unique visitors (excluding bots) who have visited the Udemy platform through udemy.com during a calendar month and takes the average of the past 6 calendar months

This information is provided solely to satisfy the requirements of the DSA and should not be used for any other purpose. This information may differ from user metrics reported in other contexts.
