Frequently asked questions

How do I sign up to Udemy with a phone number?

When creating an account on Udemy.com, depending on your region’s availability, you will have the option to add a phone number for added security. Please enter your complete phone number, including the area code.

You will then receive a 6-digit verification code through Short Message Service (SMS). Please enter the code to complete the sign-up process.

How do I log in using my phone number?

When logging in to Udemy.com or the Udemy mobile app using your phone number, you'll receive a 6-digit verification code through Short Message Service (SMS).

To complete your login, enter this code in the designated space on Udemy.com or the mobile app. Please ensure you use the latest code, which should arrive within a few minutes.

How do I change or remove my phone number in my account?

After logging in to your account, please access your account settings page. Then, click on the edit icon next to your phone number.

You can input a new phone number to update your account or select Delete to remove your phone number from your account entirely. Please enter the confirmation code sent to your phone to verify this change.

If you can no longer access notifications or messages for your phone number, please review the troubleshooting instructions below.

Can I add the same phone number to more than one account?

No. To maintain the security and recovery of your account, each account must be associated with its own unique phone number.

Can I use a landline or verify my account through a phone call?

Unfortunately, verification can only be completed through Short Message Service (SMS), depending on availability in your country.

As codes cannot be verified over a phone call, landlines are not supported at this time.

Will I be charged for a Short Message Service (SMS) code?

Charges for receiving Short Message Service (SMS) for verification may vary based on your location and mobile plan. Typically, standard messaging rates will apply.

We recommend reaching out to your mobile provider to confirm any potential costs before using this feature.

How does Udemy store my phone number?

Like other account data, phone numbers are stored in Udemy’s secured virtual private cloud environment. Additional information about Udemy’s personal data handling practices can be found in Udemy’s Privacy Policy.

Why do I have the option to sign up for WhatsApp notifications?

Depending on your region, you may have the option to sign up for marketing notifications via WhatsApp.

Can I choose to receive a code through WhatsApp instead of Short Message Service (SMS)?

No, as mentioned above, WhatsApp is only available to receive marketing notifications in eligible regions.

For issues with your WhatsApp account, please reach out to WhatsApp Support for assistance.

Is phone number sign up and log in available in all regions?

Currently, the option to sign up or log into Udemy using a phone number is not available in all regions. If the option is available in your region, you will be able to access it on the login pages as shown above.

Troubleshooting

Didn't receive a verification code

If you haven’t received your verification code after a few minutes, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can take.

  • Network signal: Please ensure you have network coverage and a stable signal on your mobile device.
  • Verify number: Double-check that you entered the correct phone number for your account.
  • Restart phone: Rebooting your phone could resolve the issue.
  • Check with your provider: Make sure you’re not having any issues with your mobile service provider.
  • Resend code: You can ask to resend a code up to ten times per hour.

If the problem persists, we recommend signing in using your email address.

The verification code does not work.

If you're encountering a Failed error message during login, please make sure you're entering the most recent code sent to your device. You can request up to ten codes per hour.

If you continue receiving a Failed error message, please use your email address to sign up or log in to your account.

Seeing a "maximum attempts reached" error.

Once the maximum number of verification code attempts is reached, your account will be temporarily locked. You’ll need to wait at least one hour from your last attempt before trying again.

Cannot access account through phone number

If you are unable to access your account by phone number, we recommend using an email address you shared during the sign up process to log in to your account.

If you are not able to access the email address that is registered with your Udemy account, learn how to submit a request to change your email address.

Received a text verification code for a login attempt I did not initiate.

If you received a verification code message for a login you did not initiate, please follow these steps to secure your account.

Please note: We recommend contacting Udemy Support immediately for the following issues:

  • You encounter a notification advising you to contact support if you don't recognize the activity.
  • If the email address or phone number you have registered with Udemy has been changed in your account, and you can’t initiate a password reset.
  • You received notifications about purchases you don’t recognize on Udemy.

Changed or lost my phone number

If you have changed your phone number, we recommend logging in using the email address associated with your account. Once you have logged in, you can update your phone number in the account settings.

If you are having trouble with your email address, learn how to troubleshoot common login issues.
