What is the Udemy AI Assistant?
With the Udemy AI Assistant, learners will have access to the knowledge of Udemy instructors at their fingertips. Through a personalized conversation, the Udemy AI Assistant will answer learning-related questions in real-time, ultimately unblocking the learning process to help you reach your learning goals faster. To do this, the AI Assistant uses its knowledge of Udemy instructor content to summarize content, explain complex concepts, and more.
Personal Plan subscribers who have access to the AI Assistant can also view recommendations for highly relevant course content.
Is the AI Assistant available in all Udemy courses?
The Udemy AI Assistant is in beta and is available in English-language courses currently included in our Personal Plan subscription, provided the course instructor is participating in our GenAI program.
If the instructor of a course is not part of this program, the AI Assistant will not be accessible.
Learners who are not enrolled in Personal Plan can enroll in courses included in the subscription by purchasing the applicable course.

Is the Udemy AI Assistant available in other languages besides English?
Currently, the Udemy AI Assistant is only available in English. Learners must have their account language set to English in order to access the feature.

As noted above, the Udemy AI Assistant might not be available in some courses included in the Personal Plan subscription, as currently, it is only available in English courses where instructors are participating in Udemy's GenAI program.
Can the AI Assistant be accessed on multiple devices?
The AI Assistant is available on both web and mobile browsers.
Does Udemy use learner personal data to train or fine-tune the GenAI models used to power the AI Assistant?
No, Udemy does not use learner personal data to train or fine tune GenAI models used for our GenAI features. Please see the “Generative AI Terms” section of our Terms of Use for more information.

Please note: The course recommendation feature is currently only available to some Personal Plan subscribers.
How does the AI Assistant determine which course to recommend when there are multiple similar courses on a topic?
AI Assistant recommends courses by taking various factors into account, including the learner’s stated skill need, keywords, ratings, etc.
We have internal teams dedicated to monitoring the impact of the changes we make to our discovery systems and continuously optimizing them to ensure a balanced approach that prioritizes both relevance and variety in course recommendations.
Does the AI Assistant suggest courses outside of the Udemy catalog?
No, the AI Assistant only recommends courses in Udemy’s Personal Plan subscription, where instructors are participating in Udemy's GenAI program.

How to access the Udemy AI Assistant and ask questions about a specific course you’re taking
If the Udemy AI Assistant is available within a course you’re taking and you have a question about a specific course during your learning experience, you can access the Udemy AI Assistant at the top-right of the course player.
You can ask the Udemy AI Assistant to provide concept explanations and summaries about the course content, practice scenarios, code examples, and more.
You can select from one of the preset prompts that is available, or enter your own question or request.
Exiting out of the Udemy AI Assistant
To navigate away from the Udemy AI Assistant and return to the course’s content curriculum, click Course content.
How to get personalized course recommendations (Personal Plan only)
If you are a Personal Plan subscriber, you can have the Udemy AI Assistant provide you with personalized course recommendations and career guidance. To begin, click on AI Assistant at the top right of your browser page.
After accessing the Udemy AI Assistant, you can select one of the preset prompts, or enter what you hope to learn.
Next, enter any subsequent questions or responses to the Udemy AI Assistant and tap enter/return on your device. Or, click the arrow icon on the right-hand side.
Encountering an issue with the course content or course player?
Please note that currently, the Udemy AI Assistant can not answer questions about technical issues you may encounter on the platform or if there is an issue with the course content.
If you encounter technical issues while taking a course, or encounter a problem with the course content itself, review steps you can take to have your question or issue resolved.
What to do if the Udemy AI Assistant is unable to answer your question
As noted above, the Udemy AI Assistant is trained to answer a specific range of questions regarding the content of specific courses.
When a question is asked outside the range of what’s expected, the Udemy AI Assistant will notify you if it’s unable to answer that question. We recommend asking questions closely related to learning and the specific content of the course you’re currently accessing.

What is My activity?
With My activity, you can see how many minutes/ hours you’ve spent learning on Udemy Business. This is especially helpful if you need to track learning hours that you’ve completed, for reporting back to your organization. This feature is for Team Plan and Enterprise customers.
How to access the My activity page
To access and view your My activity page, while logged into your Udemy Business account, simply follow the steps below.
1. Click on My Learning at the top right of the page. Alternatively, you can also click on your profile avatar at the top right of the page, and select My activity from the dropdown menu.
2. If you’ve navigated to My learning, click on View all activity to advance to the My activity page.
3. You will then see a summary of the number of hours / minutes you’ve spent learning on Udemy Business. This includes video lectures and attempted practice tests in the last 12 months.
4. Select a time-period using the calendar to see your learning activity for a particular time frame.
Note: You can also access My activity by going to your streaks on the homepage and clicking on See all activity.

What is the learner onboarding flow?
The learner onboarding flow consists of questions designed to personalize your learning experience on Udemy. After you complete the questionnaire, you will receive course recommendations based on your role and interests.
How to access the learner onboarding flow
For new learners, you can access the flow when you create your account on Udemy. For existing learners, you can access the flow by selecting Add occupation and interests on the home page.
Follow the prompts to answer questions about your field, skills, and professional goals. To complete the questions at a later time, click Save and Exit at the top.
Once you have finished answering the questions, click Start Learning.
How to edit the learner onboarding flow
To update your professional background or goals, click the Edit occupation and interests button on the home page. Then, follow the prompts to update your information.

Completing an Assignment
Assignments are posted in the curriculum of the course. Just like lectures, you can begin an assignment by clicking on it in the curriculum accessible from the left-hand side in the video player, or on the course dashboard in the Course Content section.
Please note: Assignments do not need to be completed in order to complete the course. You can move forward without having a checkmark on them and you will still receive a certificate.
Once you have clicked on the assignment you will see the assignment title, and the amount of time the instructor thinks it will take for you to complete it. In addition, the assignment feature comes with a “save draft” option, so if you run out of time, you can save what you’ve entered and finish the assignment later.
You can begin the assignment by clicking on Start Assignment in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Once you have begun the assignment, you can proceed through each section by clicking on Next at the bottom right of the page, or on the section title at the top.
Each assignment includes the following sections:
Instructions
In the instructions section, the instructor will outline what the assignment entails and what you will need to do to complete it. If the instructor has included any additional resources for you to refer to, they will also be included on this page.
Once you’re ready to complete your assignment, click on Submission at the top of the page, or Next at the bottom right.
Submission
The submission section is where you can enter your answers or add the content (image, code or external link) that the assignment requires. If at any point you want to save your assignment, and return to it at a later time, click on Save Draft at the bottom left hand of the page. What you have completed thus far will be saved.
Once your assignment is finished, you can Choose your sharing preference by selecting whether you want to share with and receive feedback from your peers.
If you have saved your submission as a draft and haven’t submitted it yet, you can return to it at anytime by clicking on Submission at the top.
If your assignment is finished and you’re ready to submit it to the instructor, click on Submit at the bottom left of the page.
Please note: Submission for each question must be 65K characters or less. Images that are to be uploaded to a submission most be smaller than 30 MB in size, and can be in .JPG, .PNG, or .BMP file format.
To advance from the submission page to the instructor’s example, click on Instructor Example at the top of the page. If you need to review the instructions again, however, then simply click on Instructions at the top left.
Instructor Example
On the Instructor Example page, you can review the instructor’s answers or solutions and compare them to your own.
If you haven’t submitted your assignment, you can return to it by clicking on Submission at the top, or Add your Answer at the bottom of the page.
Give Feedback
Reviewing another student’s work and providing your feedback will likely improve your own understanding of the course. On this page, you can provide feedback on the assignments of up to three other students, who have chosen to share their work.
Completing Your Assignment And Viewing Feedback
Once you have submitted your assignment and have navigated through each section to the Give Feedback page, click on Complete Assignment at the bottom right.
After completing the assignment, your assignment should be marked as complete with a checkmark. If you do not see a checkbox next to your assignment, please try refreshing your page.
Please note: Assignments cannot be resubmitted or unmarked as complete.
After the course instructor or other students post feedback on your assignment (if you have opted to share it with them), you will receive a notification from Udemy. The notification will include a link to the summary page that features the feedback.
Once feedback has been posted on your assignment, you can also review it at anytime, by returning to the assignment and clicking on Go to feedback at the bottom.
Commonly Asked Questions
How can I tell if a course includes assignments?
If an instructor has included assignments in the course then this will be indicated on the course landing page.
Why is my assignment not getting marked as complete (no checkmark)?
If you have completed all of the above steps, please try refreshing your Course player browser.
Do I need to submit the assignment in order to complete the course?
No. You do not need to submit the assignment in order to complete the course and receive a certificate of completion.
Is the instructor required to post feedback on my assignment?
No. While we encourage instructors to engage with students when possible, they are not required to post feedback on your assignment. Just remember that you can also review the instructor’s own answers, examples or solutions for the assignment in the Instructor Example section.
Can I redo my assignment once I’ve submitted it?
No. Once an assignment has been submitted to the instructor it cannot be edited or redone. You can, however, go back and review what you submitted as well as the instructor’s solutions.
Do I need to provide feedback on other students’ assignments?
No. You’re not required to share your assignment with your fellow students or provide feedback on theirs.

You can check to see whether a programming course includes coding exercises by looking at the course landing page. If it does offer coding exercises, you will see coding exercises posted below the course information.

Which programming languages are supported for the coding exercises?
Instructors can create coding exercises in various languages, some of which include C++, C#, Java, Python, Ruby, Swift and PHP, among others.
Completing a coding exercise
1. After navigating to a coding exercise in the course curriculum, you can begin completing it by following the instructions provided in the course player.
- Depending on the programming language you are using, you can click Run code to see the output of your code before running a test.
2. When you are ready to submit, click Run tests or Run query (depending on the programming language you are using) to see if you’ve completed the exercise correctly.
- If your test or query is incorrect, review the error details below or the applicable course resources for guidance on how to solve the exercise.
- If hints or an explanation for the exercise have been provided, you can also access them for assistance by clicking on the directional arrow at the top.
3. You can review a log for the tests or queries you’ve checked by clicking on Result.
4. To start the exercise again and delete any previously entered code and results, click on the Reset option located next to Run Code or as an icon at the top right of the screen.
Who should I contact if I have a question about a coding exercise?
If you’re unable to complete the coding exercise or have any questions, the best way to find answers is to use the Q&A.
Other learners may have asked the same question already, and if so, the instructor likely posted an answer. If no one else has asked your question, however, you can quickly post it in the Q&A for the instructor to see.

Is there an additional charge to take the practice test?
No. If a course offers a practice test it will be included in the course purchase. You will not need to pay any additional fee to take the practice test.
Will I be notified if I take longer than the time allotted to complete the exam?
Yes. The practice tests include a timer, which is set to match the same amount of time that’s allowed for the official, certifying exam. If you go past the time allotted, the practice test will alert you.
How can I review my answers?
You can review all the answers you submitted by clicking on Review questions after you’ve completed an exam, and see which questions you got right or wrong. You can also search through them for specific subjects in the exam using the Knowledge Areas filter. By clicking on the All Questions filter you’ll be able to select the questions you would like to review (correct, incorrect, skipped, marked for review.)
Will instructors be able to see my practice test answers and score?
No. Only the learner can view their answers and final score.
What is the difference between a practice test and a practice test course?
While a practice test is a feature available in select Udemy courses, practice test courses only include practice tests. These courses do not include other curriculum items like lectures and quizzes.

Which courses offer practice tests?
If a course offers a practice test this will be indicated on the course landing page, in the This course includes section.
You can also easily search and filter for courses with practice tests at Udemy.com. To do so, search for the specific topic you’re interested in. Then, under Features, select Practice Tests. Learn more about how to search for courses.
Accessing the practice test
- After accessing your course, click on any practice test under Course Content.
- When you are ready, click Begin test.
Taking the practice test
Start by choosing between practice mode and exam mode.
What is practice mode? Practice mode is an untimed, flexible way for you to practice taking the test. You can select which domain(s) you’d like to focus on and find out if you got a question right or wrong, right away. You can also learn from the detailed answer feedback that is provided.
What is exam mode? Exam mode is a timed experience designed to mimic the real test-taking experience.
Taking the test in Practice mode
Choose which domain(s) you’d like to focus on.
Click “Check answer” to check your work and review answer explanations.
Taking the test in exam mode
Proceed through the test by clicking Next Question after selecting your answer.
Click on the star next to the question to mark it for review. Or, you can click Skip Question to leave the answer blank.
The progress bar will show your progress and the time remaining in the test. Click on the pause icon to pause the test at any time. You will still be able to finish the test, even if you run out of time.
Viewing all questions during the practice test
You can quickly view all test questions by clicking on the See All Questions at the bottom left of the test screen. Scroll through to click on any question, or click on the dropdown at the top to filter by question type.
Completing the practice test
To complete your practice test, click on Finish test at the top right of the screen. The test will remind of you any questions you have missed. Then, click Finish Test again.
Reviewing your practice test results
After completing the practice test you will see your results immediately. In addition, the ratio of correct answers versus incorrect answers you entered will be shown, based on knowledge area.
To review all your answers, click on Review Questions. Click Retake test to take the test as many times as you would like.
