To maintain tax compliance, Udemy will send students a standardized electronic invoice document called a Government Uniform Invoice (GUI or eGUI) number for course purchases made in Taiwan. This article includes answers to frequently asked questions we’ve received regarding eGUI numbers.
Where is my eGUI number?
We are currently in the process of refining our eGUI system and will be sending out eGUI numbers as soon as they are available.
When and how will I receive my eGUI number?
- In early January 2020, you should expect to receive an eGUI number for each of your course purchases since January 1. Within a few days of your course purchase, Udemy will send an email invoice containing your eGUI number. Please check that your preferred email is correctly listed in your Udemy account. If you have not received an email by the end of January 2020, please check your spam or junk folder.
- You can also access your eGUI numbers in your Purchase History invoices.
We know how important this is to you so we have made this a top priority. As a global learning company, we’re constantly keeping our platform updated and aligned with changes in tax compliance. We appreciate your patience.

Udemy Pro provides students interested in IT certifications a guided learning experience to help them reach their goals and improve their lives. This article includes answers to frequently asked questions regarding the Udemy Pro subscription and outlines how the product works.
Udemy Pro content
What’s the difference between a Udemy Pro subscription and a regular Udemy Marketplace course?
Udemy Pro is a guided learning experience designed specifically to help students accomplish their IT certification goals. When subscribed to Udemy Pro, you will have unlimited access to the subscription’s content as long as you are paying for a monthly subscription. With a regular Udemy Marketplace course, you obtain lifetime access to that course alone after enrolling in it.
Are subscriptions offered in other topic areas?
Currently, we are not offering subscriptions in topic areas not related to IT certification.
Will I have full lifetime access to subscription content?
You will have unlimited access to subscription content as long as you have an active Udemy Pro subscription. If you cancel your subscription, you will have access to the subscription content until the final date of your billing period, which is posted on your Subscriptions' page.
Does the subscription program come with a 30-day money-back guarantee?
Since Udemy Pro is a subscription product, it does not offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. You may cancel at any time during your free trial, however, without being charged.
How does the free trial work?
You can try Udemy Pro free for 7 days to determine if it’s a good fit for your learning needs. After 7 days, your trial will automatically convert to a recurring $19.99 USD per month subscription (plus applicable transaction taxes).
How and when will I be billed?
Once your free trial converts to a monthly subscription, your first payment will be prorated for the remainder of the month (for example, if billing starts on the 15th of the month you will be charged for the 15th through the 30th). The following months will be billed on the first day of the month at the price of $19.99 USD per month (plus applicable transaction taxes).
How can I view applicable fees and dates of my free trial period/subscription?
You can view this information on the Subscription page. You can navigate to the page by selecting Subscriptions from the drop-down menu at the top right-hand of your screen.
Why can’t I see the option to enroll in Udemy Pro?
Currently Udemy Pro is an early release product, which is not available to all students at this time. But, rest assured we are working to gradually make the subscription available to more students. Please continue to visit the site to discover new courses and products!
Canceling your subscription
How can I cancel my free trial before being charged?
You may cancel at any time during your free trial without being charged. To cancel, log into your Udemy account, visit the Subscription tab in your student profile, and click “Cancel trial”. You can navigate to the Subscription page in your account by heading to your profile and then by clicking Subscription on the left-hand side.
How can I manage or cancel my subscription?
You can visit the aforementioned Subscription tab in your student profile to manage or cancel your subscription at any time. If you cancel your subscription, you will have access to the subscription content until the final date of your billing period, which is posted on your Subscriptions’ page.
Course taking questions
Can I take my Udemy Pro courses on the Udemy mobile app?
At this time, the Udemy Pro learning experience is not accessible on the Udemy mobile app. You can, however, access it via a browser on your mobile device at Udemy.com (in addition to your desktop or laptop).
Where can I access the practice tests?
You can access the practice tests for your Udemy Pro subscription by clicking on the course dropdown menu icon, which appears right above the course player on the left-hand side.
These Udemy Pro Terms (“Terms”) were last updated on October 25, 2019.
1. Subscription Plans
When you subscribe to a Collection, you get a license from us to view the courses included in that Collection via the Udemy Services and no other use. The subscription that you purchase, order, or renew determines the scope, features, and price of your access to a Collection. You may not transfer or assign your subscription. Your access to that Collection ends at the expiration or termination of your subscription term.
We reserve the right to revoke any license to access and use courses in our Collections at any time in the event where we decide or are obligated to disable access to a course due to legal or policy reasons. For example, we may need to do this if the course is the object of a copyright complaint, or if we determine its content violates our Trust & Safety Guidelines.
2. Account Management
You may cancel a subscription by following the steps outlined on our Support Page. If you cancel that subscription, you will not be entitled to receive a refund or credit of any fees already paid for it. For clarity, cancellation of a subscription does not terminate your Udemy account.
3. Free Trials
Your subscription may start with a free trial. The duration of the free trial period of your subscription will be specified during sign-up. Udemy in its sole discretion determines free trial eligibility and may limit eligibility or duration. We reserve the right to terminate the free trial and suspend your subscription if we determine that you aren’t eligible.
We will charge the subscription fee for your next billing cycle at the end of the free trial period. Your subscription will automatically renew according to your subscription settings (e.g., monthly or annually) unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of the free trial period. For more information on how to view applicable fees and dates of your free trial period, visit our Support Page.
Your subscription fee is a recurring fee, so it will automatically continue unless you notify us before that charge that you don’t want to automatically renew your subscription.
To use Udemy Pro, you must provide a payment method. By subscribing to a Collection and providing your billing information during checkout, you grant us and our third-party payment processor(s) the right to process payment for the then-applicable fees via the payment method we have on record for you. At the end of each subscription term, we will automatically renew your subscription for the same length of term and process your payment method for payment of the then-applicable fees.
If we are unable to process payment through the payment method we have on file for you, we may suspend or terminate your subscription.
We reserve the right to change our subscription plans or adjust pricing for our Services at our sole discretion. Any price changes or changes to your subscription will take effect following notice to you.
5. Miscellaneous Legal Terms
5.1 Additional Disclaimers
We make no guarantees as to the availability of any specific courses in any Collection or as to any minimum number of courses in any Collection. At any point in the future, we reserve the right to offer or cease to offer additional features to Udemy Pro, or to otherwise modify or terminate Udemy Pro at our sole discretion.
5.2 Updating These Terms
From time to time, we may update these Terms to clarify our practices or to reflect new or different practices (such as when we add new features), and Udemy reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify and/or make changes to these Terms at any time. If we make any material change, we will notify you using prominent means such as by email notice sent to the email address specified in your account or by posting a notice through our Services. Modifications will become effective on the day they are posted unless stated otherwise. Your continued use of our Services after changes become effective shall mean that you accept those changes. Any revised Terms shall supersede all previous Terms.
Any version of these Terms in a language other than English is provided for convenience and you understand and agree that the English language will control if there is any conflict.
This Section 5 (Miscellaneous Legal Terms) shall survive the expiration or termination of these Terms.
6. How to Contact Us
The best way to get in touch with us is to contact our Support Team. We'd love to hear your questions, concerns, and feedback about our Services.

Udemy has an extensive, multi-language library, which includes over 150,000 courses that have been created by expert instructors. The courses range across a wide range of categories, some of these include: business & entrepreneurship, programming, academics, the arts, health & fitness, language, music, technology, games, and much more.
This article outlines how you can search Udemy’s ever-growing library, and find courses you’re interested in taking.
Using the Marketplace Search Tool
You can quickly search for courses by using the search tool, which is located at the top of the Udemy marketplace page beside the Categories menu. You can also access the search tool on your My Courses page, and the Instructor Dashboard, if you’re an instructor.
Search results can be created by entering words related to the course and or subject into the search tool, and then clicking enter.
The search results will also include primary topics that are related to the terms you searched. By clicking on the primary topic, you will be directed to a new page of related courses.
Searching by Category
You can also search for courses by category. Simply move your cursor to the Categories icon at the top, and then select the category and or subcategory you wish to view.
The Featured courses for that category will appear below. If you wish to view additional courses for that category, however, then click All Courses under the category title (please note that categories should not be confused with primary topics outlined above).
Using the Search Tool Filters
There are several, different filters you can use on the All Courses page of a category to narrow your search.
On the left-hand side, the filters include:
- Level (basic, intermediate, expert, all levels),
- Language (the course languages),
- Features (quizzes, closed captions, coding exercises)
On the right-hand side, you can sort by:
- Highest Rated
- Price: Low to High
- Price: High to Low
Highest Rated sorts the courses based on the ratings average it’s received in the last 90 days. Newest, on the other hand, prioritizes courses that were more recently added to the Udemy marketplace.
Once you’ve located a course you’re interested in, you can see if the course is right for you by starting a free preview and watching a handful of lectures the instructor has selected. For more information on how to do this, please click here.
In addition, once you find a course you’re interested in, you can quickly let your friends, relatives or co-workers know about it by using the social media links on the course landing page.

Udemy has a legal obligation to collect applicable transaction taxes including VAT (Value Added Tax), GST (Goods & Services Tax), or other types of sales taxes, for purchases, which may vary depending on a student's local, state, and country jurisdiction. This article includes answers to frequently asked questions we receive regarding taxes for Udemy purchases.
Who has to pay transaction taxes on Udemy purchases?
Students who reside in regions that collect transaction taxes like VAT, GST, or other types of sales taxes may be required to pay a tax when they make a purchase on the Udemy platform. Taxes are calculated based on a variety of factors such as account and billing information.
Udemy reserves the right to change this policy to be in compliance with tax requirements at any time.
How can I preview how much transaction tax will be charged?
During the checkout process, any applicable taxes will be included in your order total before you are charged. The tax amount that was charged will be indicated in your receipt and the tax rate will be reflected in the transaction’s invoice.
Depending on the region you live in and the tax being collected, tax will be included in the display price or included in the total. For example, students purchasing courses in tax-inclusive countries will see the tax included in the course price. So, if the course is priced at £19.99, then the student would pay £19.99 for the purchase.
Students purchasing courses in tax-exclusive countries will see the tax displayed on the checkout page as “Estimated Tax”.
Where can I see how much transaction tax was charged after I make a Udemy purchase?
When you complete a purchase on Udemy, you will be sent a receipt via email, which will break down the purchase price and taxes separately. The amount you paid will be shown on your receipt beside Tax.
Where can I get a copy of my receipt ?
If you require another copy of your receipt you can quickly access one by heading to the Purchase History in your account.
For instructions on how to access this page and to get a copy of your receipt please click here.
Is it possible to get receipts without the transaction tax amount that was charged shown? Or can Udemy remit the transaction taxes I paid?
Due to legal obligations we must show the amount of tax that was charged for each transaction. We will not be able to remove tax amounts from receipts. As Udemy.com is a business to consumer website, we are not able to remove references to taxes from our receipts or invoices.
If a customer wants a receipt or invoice without taxes included because they are a business and therefore do not pay taxes, they would need to sign up for a Udemy for Business account. If you are a business that is interested in the Udemy for Business platform, you can learn more here.
What are Udemy’s Taxpayer Identification Number and VAT ID?
Udemy’s Taxpayer Identification Number is 27-1779864. Our VAT ID is EU372008054.

Have questions regarding how Udemy courses are priced? Here are some of our most frequently asked questions.
How does pricing work on Udemy ?
The instructor of the course determines the list price of the course. In addition, both Instructors and Udemy can offer discounts on courses at anytime. Once you have purchased a course, you are able to learn at your own pace, and you have lifetime access to the course material as long as you continue to have access to your Udemy account.
Does Udemy offer promotions on courses?
Yes! We frequently run promotions that offer courses at great, low prices! If you want to be alerted of our promotions, please make sure you’re subscribed to our promotional emails. You can review your notification settings by here.
Why is the price listed for a course at Udemy.com different than the price for it on the mobile app?
The marketplace for Udemy’s mobile applications are owned and managed by Apple (iOS app) and Google Play (Android app), and Udemy does not have control over the price tier structure provided by these platforms. As a result, the course price listed on the mobile apps may differ slightly from the course price posted on Udemy.com. This is because the pricing matrix for these mobile providers will select the price tier that is closest to the course price set by the Udemy instructor, but they do not always match up exactly.
Additionally, courses on the mobile app may have a different price listed during a sale, because there is no way to enter coupon codes on the Udemy mobile apps, like there is on the web version of Udemy.com. If you encounter a price discrepancy on the mobile app, and have a coupon code to discount a course, please enter the code on our web version at www.udemy.com. Once you have purchased the course at Udemy.com you will also be able to access it on the mobile app.
How are you calculating exchange rates?
We are using a country-specific price tier matrix to determine a student’s localized price. You can see the price tier matrix here. The matrix will be updated periodically based on market conditions.
A course I was enrolled in has been unpublished; do I still have access to the content?
Yes, you’ll continue to have lifetime access to all the courses you are enrolled in so long as you have access to your Udemy account. Please be sure to log in to your Udemy account to access your courses.
I bought a course and it’s now being offered at a lower price, what should I do?
We will honor the best price available for any courses purchased up to 30 days after the initial purchase date. Please contact our support team with the exact title of the course in question so we can process the price adjustment.
Do I have to pay taxes when I purchase a course?
Students who reside in regions that collect transaction taxes like VAT, GST, or other types of sales taxes, may be required to pay a tax when they make a purchase on the Udemy platform. Taxes are calculated based on a variety of factors such as account and billing information. This article includes information regarding taxes that may be charged for Udemy course purchases.
Still have questions?
Contact our support team and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

In addition, if you’ve purchased a course before, you can also see what currency is registered for your account by reviewing receipts in your Purchase History.
Why have I seen two different currencies at Udemy.com?
Please be sure to log into your Udemy account in order to see the currency that is assigned to your account. If you are traveling or are using someone else’s computer, then the currency you see might be based on the device’s current location or that person’s account, rather than your own.
In addition, if you’re using the Udemy mobile app, please remember that the app features currencies supported by the Apple App Store and Google Play, and can differ from Udemy.com.
I noticed my country’s currency is available on the mobile app but not at Udemy.com. How come?
As noted above, Udemy’s mobile app features the currencies that are supported by the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Common Reasons For Failed Card Payments
Incorrectly entered information: please ensure you enter the first and last name of the card account holder, exactly as it appears on the card, and that you enter it in the Name on Card field. For example, if the card account holder’s name reads John R. Doe, then John R. Doe must be entered, as shown below.
Incorrect CVC code: please ensure you’re only entering numbers and that the code is correct, as listed on the back of the card.
Incorrect postal code or code is not applicable: if your payment failure states it is due to a zip code or postal code error, please contact your bank to ensure they have the right one on file. If zip codes aren't applicable in your country, however, and you still see a zip code field, please try entering all zeros (00000).
Outdated saved payment method: if you’re encountering issues while trying to purchase with a saved payment method, try deleting it and re-adding it to ensure the details are correct and up to date. You can also add a new card.
Using a debit card not authorized for international purchases: Udemy is based in the United States, and debit cards in many countries do not allow foreign transactions. If you do not see a local payment option when checking out on Udemy, call your bank to ensure your card is authorized for international purchases. Please note that Udemy is not able to remove these restrictions.
Issuing country for the card is different from country of residence: if the issuing country for your card is different from your country of residence, your card might not be approved. Try another payment method we offer, or contact your bank.
Attempting payments while using a VPN : multiple IP addresses can result in authorization problems and failed transactions. We advise that you refrain from using a virtual private network (VPN) while making a purchase on Udemy.
Too many payment attempts have been made in the last 24 hours: some cards have usage limitations, and will automatically block payment attempts after a certain threshold has been reached. Try contacting your bank or using a different payment method.
Using a Rocketmail email address for your account: payment attempts from Udemy accounts with Rocketmail addresses will not be accepted by our system. Please try changing your email address to a non-Rocketmail domain.
Browser isn’t working correctly due to caching issues: if you’re seeing a notification your card number looks invalid or icons aren’t showing up, there may be a caching issue. Please clear your browser’s cache and try again.
Still Stuck? Your Bank Should Have More Information
Some of the most common reasons banks decline payments include insufficient funds, card purchase limitations, and card security policies, among other issues. Since Udemy does not have detailed insights into why a payment is declined, we recommend contacting your financial institution directly to help solve the payment issue.
It’s important to let your bank know that you would like to make a payment on Udemy.com and that Udemy is a company based in the United States.

For steps on how to apply a coupon code in your shopping cart, please click here.
Why do I see “sorry, this course is not included in this promotion” when I try to enter the coupon code?
Since Udemy courses are created and managed by the instructors themselves, they determine whether their courses are going to be included in our promotions and sales. So, if you see this notice, it means the coupon code you’ve received cannot be redeemed for that course. Most instructors, however, are enrolled in Udemy promotions. So you’ll very likely be able to redeem the coupon code for a similar course. For tips on how to search for courses on Udemy, please click here.
In addition, please note that Udemy promotions can vary in length and scope, and not all sales apply to our entire marketplace.
How long are coupon codes good for?
If you have a coupon code that’s part of a Udemy promotion, then the coupon code can be used to discount eligible courses, until the promotion ends. The duration of specific Udemy promotions may vary. Some promotions may run for several days, while others may run for multiple weeks.
If you’re unsure about the expiry date of a coupon code an instructor has provided for you, however, you can contact them directly to find out when it expires. This article outlines how you can send a message to an instructor.
What’s the difference between a Udemy coupon code and an Instructor’s coupon? How can I tell?
Since Udemy courses are created and managed by the instructors themselves, they can also can create coupon codes for their courses if they wish. These coupons can be redeemed the same way as outlined above, at Udemy.com.
Generally speaking, instructors forward coupons they’ve created to their students in promotional announcements from their courses, which often include a personalized message from them. In addition, many instructors also run their own promotions separately from Udemy, via their own social media channels and ad campaigns.
Why can’t I enter coupon codes on the Udemy mobile app?
